An update on recent events
July 8, 2009 at 3:38 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentOur Town Cooperative has been very busy with three events in the past five days! Check out what’s been happening downtown…
Friday, July 3 marked our second First Fridays event of the summer. Music was provided by The 4 Jays, who played oldies and doo-wop music for the crowd. Art also made an appearance at First Fridays. He danced the night away and welcomed the attendees.
The Parade of Chairs was well under way by Friday night!

Canonsburg resident Mary Kubas designed this 4th of July-themed chair for the event.

Saturday, July 4 was the day of the Canonsburg 4th of July parade. Our Town Cooperative participated in the parade with a banner bearing Art’s likeness.

As usual, the residents of Canonsburg lined the streets in anticipation of the famed 4th of July parade.

Art marched in the parade and even made a new friend–the Wild Things mascot! The pair posed for pictures and hugged as they waited for the parade to start.

Finally, on Tuesday, July 7, the first To Market Tuesdays ~ Canonsburg Farmers Market was held in the Luksis lot on East Pike Street. While a few of our vendors were unable to attend this first installment of the farmers market, they will be prepared shortly and will arrive at the market within a couple of weeks. This week, Bedner Farms brought their fresh herbs, flowers, and vegetables for sale. Ace’s Cyber Cafe and Grill, a local business, hosted a hot dog stand. And Skocik’s Plum Run Winery returned with a table of handcrafted wines, wine glasses, and fresh berries.
Art was dressed accordingly for the farmers market in his chef hat!

We thank all of our attendees for coming to support Our Town Cooperative and our local businesses. For those who have not yet made it to one of our events, we welcome you to take part in what downtown Canonsburg has to offer. Here’s how you can become involved:
- Stop by the Luksis lot (on East Pike Street, by the Greater Canonsburg Public Library) on Tuesdays from 3-6 p.m., for To Market Tuesdays ~ Canonsburg Farmers Market. Support our area’s vendors by purchasing some locally grown produce or products by locally-owned businesses. Supporting our businesses allows the downtown economy to thrive.
- Mark your calendars for our next First Fridays event on August 7. It will be held in the Sarris Municipal Lot on West Pike Street from 6-9 p.m. Entertainment includes music by Roger Montgomery, a community art walk, sidewalk sales, and specials at our local businesses! Free downtown parking will also be available for attendees.
For more information on our local events, check our web site.
We hope to see you downtown soon!
Parade of Chairs
June 29, 2009 at 10:09 am | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentPike Street in Downtown Canonsburg will soon be lined with chairs. Parade spectators plan well in advance and claim their viewing spot early! And folks love it…….. So, why not give the passers-by something to really look at?? If you are one to place your chairs out early, decorate them up! Be creative!
Upcoming Events
June 23, 2009 at 5:25 pm | Posted in Events | Leave a commentDowntown Canonsburg will be hosting several events over the course of the next week. Please join us downtown and support your local businesses!
On Friday, July 3, we’ll be hosting another round of First Fridays. Last month featured music by The Pop Rocks and a Student Art Walk, which was hosted by several of our local businesses. This month, we’ll be featuring another musical attraction: The 4 Jays, who will be Doowoppin’ Downtown from 6-9 in the Luksis Municipal Lot on East Pike Street. We’ll also have a Parade of Chairs, which will be set up in preparation for the next day’s event. And you won’t want to miss The Human Twister–it’s like the board game, only much bigger!
The Fourth of July Parade is the second event in Downtown Canonsburg. Our parade is the second-largest in the state and a huge attraction for those in the area. And this year, you can see Art’s first appearance in the parade!
Our next event takes place on Tuesday, July 7. This marks the beginning of this summer’s To Market Tuesdays ~ Canonsburg Farmers Market. Come to the Luksis Municipal Lot from 3-6 and check out the great selection of fresh fruits and veggies, baked goods, cheeses and more! We’ll also be introducing some new vendors this year. The market will be held every Tuesday until the end of September. And remember, Art eats his veggies!
Want to see Art about town? Then stop by downtown Canonsburg and take part in our local events!
